Summer Institute

Stipend for NEH Summer Scholars

All summer scholars in the Religious Worlds institute will receive a stipend of $2,700 to help pay their travel, housing, and living expenses for the duration of the institute.  The stipend will be paid by check in two equal installments, on Monday July 9th and Friday July 20th.

For those summer scholars who stay at Union Theological Seminary, we will need to deduct a portion of your stipend (with your written agreement) to make advance payment for on-campus housing.

As the NEH makes clear in their application guidelines, all participants in the Religious Worlds institute "are required to attend all meetings and to engage fully as professionals in the work of the [institute].  During the [institute's] tenure, they may not undertake teaching assignments or any other professional activities unrelated to their participation in the project.  Participants who, for any reason, do not complete the full tenure of the [institute] must refund a pro-rata portion of the stipend."
